BIRTH
PHOTOGRAPHY
AND FILMS
Artfully capturing your story while preserving the sacred space that is birth.
"For me, the camera is a sketchbook, an instrument of intuition and spontaneity."
I capture your birth as I work as your birth keeper. Intuitively and quietly. In the many years I have been documenting birth the importance of preserving the space while also capturing imagery or films has been my priority.
As a mother of three children and an experienced doula, I know the importance of capturing the beauty and realness of birth.
Women look back at their images and re-live those moments and memories that changed their lives forever. Each and every type of birth is worth documenting, whether it is a home birth with midwives or a planned cesarean section in hospital with obstetricians.
Your Birth in Images & Film
Documenting birth in images or video is also an incredibly powerful and beautiful experience to look back on for years to come and see things that you may not have been aware on when in your birth bubble. I pride myself on my ability to document in an intuitive way that is not disruptive while also providing doula care seamlessly alongside.

FIVE Reasons to Hire
a Birth Photographer
-
Having a professional birth photographer there to capture your birth means that you and your partner do not have to worry about getting photos and can just focus on giving birth and being present for one another. You will be able to see all of the little details afterwards that you might have missed while in your birth bubble.
-
This birth and these moments will only happen one time! It is a really common regret that I hear from people that they wished they had documented their birth after the day.. I donβt want anybody to feel this way.
-
Having professional images. Even though we can now capture great photos on our iPhones, the quality of professional images by far exceeds what can be snapped on a phone. Not to mention many births happen at night and in the dark and my equipment and skills are to be able to capture artfully in these exact conditions.
-
Visual Debrief. Being able to see your images or film after your birth can be a really impactful and helpful debrief after birth. I have had many clients thank me for capturing certain moments that they were unaware of or are just so grateful to be able to see and keep forever.
-
It's not just about the V shot. Despite it being one of the first things people ask me about being a birth photographer there is SO much more than the moment the baby emerges and capturing that in all its glory (although I do love this moment) Birth Photography is storytelling and photojournalism at it finest capturing the quiet moments between surges, the powerful bursts as baby comes down and the first tears and smells of seeing this baby. It is quite simply one of the most beautiful stories to capture and see unfoldβ¦
With my extensive experience as a doula, I approach each birth space with respect. I quietly work around my couples so as not to disturb the birth process or the birth professionals caring for them.
I've formed great relationships with midwives, doulaβs and obstetricians and they welcome me to document my clients stories.
Frequently
Asked Questions
-
I go on call for each of my birth clients from 37 weeks until the day their baby is born. This means that when on call I am available to them 24/7. My bag is packed, equipment charged and childcare in place so that I can leave as soon as they need me
-
Most of my clients book me at least 5-6 months in advance and often earlier.. This is because I often get booked up as I only take on a limited number of births per year and also so that we can have the time to connect and get to know each other before I come to you in labor. Of course I do get later bookings and thes are always welcomed if I have availability.
-
This is something that very rarely happens with good communication during labour but occasionally with an extremely fast birth I might arrive just after baby is born. If this happens I just continue and document your story from the moment I arrive. There is still so much to capture and is just the story of your birth. If I feel I have not documented enough I will often come back and do a postpartum session to complete the story.
-
If you transfer into the hospital from home I will come with you (in my own car or taxi) and depending on the details of your transfer and what is happening I will continue to document your story in the hospital. I have captured many hospital births and it is still possible to get beautiful images. If for any reason I am unable to come in with you I usually arrange to come to you as soon as I am able to continue capturing.
-
For cesarean births if I am unable to come into theater I usually give a camera to your partner or a member of staff to capture images and I will document right up until you go in and as soon as you come out of the OR. If I am allowed into theater I will capture all the moments of your birth as planned.
-
Yes I can! This requires some careful planning between us and is dependent on being granted permission prior to the day for me to come into theatre. I have also documented planned c-sections where I come with you and we capture everything up until the moment you go into thetare and then I hand my camera to a member of staff or your partner and then I continue to document from the moment you come out. Both of these options are a beautiful way of having birth photography or films.
-
My process for editing and creating your birth story takes time . I often take a few days or a week+ just to decide on my editing direction. I allow up to 6 weeks to deliver your birth story to you. During this time I do send through a number of sneak peeks for you to enjoy.
-
I never share any images or films of any of my clients without their prior permission. My client's privacy is extremely important to me. My clients all have the option to decide whether to allow sharing when booking me and they can always change their minds too. If I do get permission it is an incredible way of educating and informing on the beauty of all types of birth and I am so grateful to all of my clients who do decide to share their stories.
